AUBURN — Psi Iota Xi, Eta Xi Chapter has donated $15,865 toward construction of the new DeKalb County Outdoor Theater in Auburn.

The sorority supports art, literature and music. The gift represents proceeds from a national convention the chapter sponsored in 2007.

The money will allow the theater include features that otherwise would have been deleted due to increases in construction costs, said officers of DeKalb County Outdoor Theater Inc. Those features may include soundproofing and theater rigging.

Construction of the theater is under way on a site east of Cedar Creek and south of Eleventh Street.

A handicapped-access ramp at the rear of the stage has been completed. Work continues on stage lighting, doors and a stone driveway, which should be finished in the next several weeks. A fence and landscape also are scheduled for completion.

The project’s supervisor, Mike Ley of Signature Construction, said lead contractor Fetters Construction has donated aluminum steps for the front of the stage.
