AUBURN — The DeKalb Outdoor Theater board held its annual meeting Dec. 17 and
reviewed its inaugural season of 21 events, including 19 that were free to the
public.
The performances included a popular Friday Night Performance Series that ran for
11 weeks, offering a variety of entertainment. The board agreed to continue this
series and to partner with various organizations in presenting the 2010
Performance Series.
Froggy Radio will partner with the theater board for the first performance June
4, featuring the local classic rock band Choice.
Psi Iota Xi Sorority-Eta Xi Chapter will partner to bring the Fort Wayne
Philharmonic on July 2, featuring patriotic music.
The board also voted to add a children’s series to the 2010 season and has
partnered with the DeKalb County libraries to bring four events over a period of
eight weeks. Deb Argast of Eckhart Public Library met with the board to discuss
the various aspects of a children’s series.
John Chalmers presented the president’s award to Richard Shankle for his
involvement in and contributions to the group since its inception. Shankle
retired from the organization in 2009.
The board welcomed two new members, Alaina Ring and Alicia Kaufman, and thanked
outgoing board members Donell Housel and Ken Fender.
The board elected its officers for 2010: John Chalmers, president; Kent Johnson,
vice president; Tom Smith, treasurer; and Jed Freels, secretary.
The DeKalb Outdoor Theater is a partnership between the theater board, the
DeKalb County Fair Association and the City of Auburn.
The theater board said its mission is to be a sustainable, countywide,
cooperative venture providing a balanced variety of stimulating cultural,
educational, and performing arts opportunities for individuals and/or groups of
all ages in the DeKalb community family.
