AUBURN — Earle’s Country Jam will perform in a free concert Saturday at 6
p.m. at the DeKalb Outdoor Theater.
The group began several years ago, when a group of local musicians gathered in
Earle Healey’s basement on Thursday nights to play and sing country music.
The band started with a few regulars including Mike “Doc” Webb, Herman
Gingrich and Claud Marshal, then added its first woman, Mary Alice Aschelman, as
a lead singer.
The group continued to grow until it was too big for Healey’s basement. Denny
Meyers invited them to meet and perform at the Cupbearer, and they have become
regulars every Thursday night. With its newfound home, the group continued to
attract more members and now has up to 20 musicians.
Don Warstler, who for years sang with his band, Don Warstler and the Country
Boys, is one of the more notable players who has joined the group. The common
thread with the members is that they all love country music, old and new, as
well as a little bluegrass and some Gospel.
Healey started volunteering at the DeKalb Outdoor theater shortly after it
opened and had the idea to bring the group to that stage.
